The NL MVP Award should be a slam-dunk. Bryce Harper had the breakout season that people have been expecting since he was on the cover of Sports Illustrated as a 16-year-old in 2009.
The graphs below show the important statistics for the three finalists, along with other notable NL players in 2015. The three finalists are highlighted in blue.
I wrote about these three pitchers who were the three finalists for the NL Cy Young Award yesterday, but I’m listing them here because pitchers are eligible to win the MVP award, even if it rarely happens. All three of these pitchers produced more WAR than Joey Votto, who was one of the three finalists. Who I think will win: Harper. It should be unanimous but some cranky, old sportswriter will put him second or third on the ballot just because they don’t like his attitude. That’ll teach him!
Who I would vote for: Harper, as many times as I could.
