There’s a catch, though. Moustakas started off this season hitting the ball the other way much more often than he had ever before, but he has since returned to his old self. Consider the numbers from Fangraphs:
Percentage of Mike Moustakas’ hits to the opposite field:
First half: 31.5%
Second half: 22.2%
Moustakas WAS hitting the ball the other way significantly more often in April, less so in May, and much less so in August and September. In the second half (post All-Star break), Moustakas hit the ball to the opposite field less often than his career mark.
The narrative is no longer true, baseball announcers. Stop using it.
